The use of it is intended to reflect that such fighters are irregular troops, and not soldiers (professional fighters) but part of a trained levy. Individual gentles may also adopt the term for the same reason, or to denote that they are not currently attached to a fighting household or formal unit.<br /> <br /> For the most part, the term is an affectation, used to preserve persona ambience, but such units are often noted for a lack of uniformity in dress and arms, and are sometimes noted for eschewing block and formation maneuvering in [[melee]]s.
