Taliesin Wordweaver, formerly known by her loconym Taliesin of Donnershafen, lives and plays in the far Northern edges of the Midrealm. She has been playing our Dream to since 2012, off and on. She went to Pennsic in 2016 and again in 2018.
Taliesin was given her name as an affectionate nickname by a quill-pal before she joined our Society, when she was a bored youth who emailed back and forth about Beowulf and how weird the Song of Roland is (an opinion she has not yet seen fit to modify).
Persona
Taliesin, despite her name, is in no way Welsh. When young she was an apprentice to a shamaness of a small and long forgotten Balto-Slavic tribe, from whom she learned the power of words cunningly formed, of herbs wisely gathered, and visions humbly accepted. When the Vikings raided, she was taken as a thrall, but she soon learned new songs, and the power of Runes. The Vikings took her with on their raids, that she would record their prowess and treasure, but when they happened to be raiding near the coast of Wales she decided to make a getaway, dove into the water, and when she arrived on shore she took the first name she heard called out over the waves. Under this name, she will answer your call.
A&S Endeavors
Taliesin's Period specialties are alliterative verse forms and intermediate cardweaving, though her sewing is proficient, her Naalbinding is warm, and she has recently taken up Illumination. She has a deep affection and appreciation of food, which extends to cooking it.
Awards
In 2017 she received her Award of Arts in for her service to the Barony by cooking late into the night over the camp's fires.
In 2022 she became a Companion of the Order of the Willow for her accomplishments in verse, weaving, and other textile arts at Baronial Border Wars.
In 2024 she received the Order of the Evergreen at Midrealm Bardic Madness, confirming many suspicions that she was a (dis)honorable lady all along.
Bardic Arts
Taliesin Wordweaver composes, sings, recites, filks, and once in a long while tells a story. She was a student of Hilla Stormbringer for several years, and became her premier apprentice at Val Day 2025, because sometimes Hilla makes poor decisions. Taliesin she intends to bring her Laurel both glory and regret. Taliesin fought for Midrealm Alliance in the First Bardic War, where she competed in Original Period Song [1]and Period Performance [2] Most of her SCA-adjacent repertoire may be found on Tilted Windmill: [3]
Textile Arts
Taliesin's cardweaving has been gifted to peers seeking belts for their dependents, distributed as gifts and prizes of great value by her Barony, and she has designed a pattern displaying the Sable Swan of Donnershafen. She has prepared and hand-spun wool from early mundane childhood.
Martial Arts
Taliesin was authorized in Heavy in 2024 at Baronial Border Wars, and authorized in Siege at Pennsic 2024. She fights with Iron Lance as a dirty merc. She leaps at you screaming with a sword in each hand and believes it is best to Die Often & Die Gloriously. She was by hired by the winning side of Pennsic war in both 2024 and 2025, and while this may just be coincidence, do you really want to take the risk?
Bacon Arts
Taliesin cooks bacon and meat cookies that the populace might not starve in the late hours of the evening. She wields the Bacon Spear of Donnershafen and leads the sacred chants of the Bacon Song.
Heraldry
It will be blue and white and involve a countercharged spiderweb and a cunning pun when it someday gets submitted.
