A Principality is a large sub region of a Kingdom ruled by a Prince and Princess. Generally a Principality is created when a region has become large enough to become a separate Kingdom and wants to do so. So far all of the Principalities of the Midrealm have gone on to become Kingdoms, most recently Northshield. Other Kingdoms have long-standing Principalities which are unlikely to become Kingdoms.
