Holy Crap! They put me on Vigil!

You just got put on Vigil. Congratulations!

Now what? Who are all these people you've never seen before asking if they can "do something..." Something? What? Gosh if only there were a place where you'd written down all those things you thought were cool at other people's Vigils and Elevations. That would have been smart huh?

In Case of Peerage, Break Glass

Look, getting Elevated is just about as exciting and stressful as a wedding. There's Tons to think about and more options than you ever imagined were possible. Both the Chamberlain and every person you've ever met will want to know your preferences for your ceremony.

That's where your In Case of Peerage document comes in. Your Peer will, at some point, ask their household to create and update their ICOP document. Some households do this at an annual gathering with the assistance of food and beverages. Other peers will just send a text if they're aware of changes in your life that maybe you've let slip your mind, things like, "Hey your son would look cute in that outfit, but he's 6'4" now and a Court Herald, so maybe you might want to use him that way..."

Why bother?

You will be at peak emotion. You will be at peak stress. You will have a month or two until you're Elevation and wonder, "How the heck do I get started??"

But you planned ahead, writing your ICOP and updating it every year. Go you! One less thing to stress over!

Look, your number might come up, you look it over and think, "Man, what was I Thinking." That's okay too. The point is that thinking about some stuff in advance reduces your stress so you can enjoy your elevation, even if you wind up using it as more of a jumping off point than a detailed plan.

Great . . How do I get started?

If you're in relationship with a Peer, there's a good chance they have a preferred template. If they don't, there's a Pretty Good one here.

Get together with your household, some snacks and beverages and start writing.

What if I Change my Mind?

Your Populace is now King? Your Laurel just got Pelican and you thought of another Laurel you'd like? Update the ICOP! It's easy.

Change your mind about some aspect of your ceremony? Update the ICOP!

Your dreams change? Update the ICOP!

This is your ceremony, it should be everything you dreamed of.

Congratulations! Now your real work begins...
