A glove with armor only for the wrist, thumb and back of the hand. This leaves the fingers less protected (having only a glove of leather or mail) but considerably more mobile than a full mitten guantlet or fingered gauntlet.

In SCA combat it is usually paired with a basket hilt which protects the fingers. The half-gauntlet saves weight by dispensing with the rest of the heavy plate in a fully-armored gauntlet.
