Boasts are introductions given by heralds in several different SCA contexts. Boasts may be given as royalty enter into court, as combatants present themselves before a tournament, or as a vigilant is called into court to be elevated for a peerage. Boasts can be given in the form of poetry (rhyming or not) or prose.

When boasting royalty into court, a herald is typically advised to ask if there are certain styles they want to use or to avoid ("...by Right of Arms," "....of Love and Beauty"). These may have been shared in their preferences at the beginning of their reign.

Those delivering boasts for elevations may consult with the vigilant regarding tone or important items to mention but keep the text a surprise, or may share the actual text ahead of time.

A boast should be of a length appropriate for the person being boasted and any procession accompanying them to make their entrance. It typically includes a list of their titles, accomplishments, and virtues. The tone can range from solemn to humorous, depending on what suits the subject best.
