One of the Chivalric Virtues. Skill at arms, especially of an armored combatant. Prowess, along with the other virtues, is perhaps the principal goal of armored combat.

The Old French term "œpreaux" may be used to refer to the prowess of a combatant, but has an additional implication of nobility and chivalry. One wishes to be a "œpreaux chevalier" even if not a belted knight.

In simple terms, Prowess is skill and the striving for skill, and in this sense it can apply to more than just combat.
