1. A medieval word for a doctor or medical professional, the root of the modern word Surgeon. Pronounced kai-urge-un.
2. An officer of a group in charge of recording and reporting when first-aid has been administered at an official function of that group.
3. An individual with first-aid training who is available and warranted to render assistance as needed at events, practices, meetings or other SCA functions.
As of Aug 10, 2015, the Chirurgeonate ceased to exist as an official office of the SCA. At that time, all official warrants expired and all official requirements for and of the Chirurgeonate were discontinued. Many chirurgeons continue to serve the Populace as an independent Guild.
