Crash space is space for over-night (or over the Event) lodging. While it's often informally arranged in a one-on-one fashion, the event may provide coordination for it. It may even be a function of the Event Steward to arrange for such space.
In many cases, crash space is arranged as a cost-saving mechanism, like car-pooling.
Giving or partaking of crash space can be one of the more rewarding social aspects of the SCA. It's a great way to meet interesting individuals and start new friendships.
