- The name "Vinca" is a diminutive form of the Latin word for the common periwinkle flower as noted in Pliny the Elder's Natural History, "vincapervinca". It is a small, evergreen plant with purple blossoms. It is found as a given name on a taxation roll from Imola, Italy in 1312.
