A term for a heavy fighter which has grown in popularity among pre-chivalric households such as the Ring Tribe; used to denote members of a fighting contingent of the household. The use of it is intended to reflect that such fighters are irregular troops, and not soldiers (professional fighters) but part of a trained levy. Individual gentles may also adopt the term for the same reason, or to denote that they are not currently attached to a fighting household or formal unit.
For the most part, the term is an affectation, used to preserve persona ambience, but such units are often noted for a lack of uniformity in dress and arms, and are sometimes noted for eschewing block and formation maneuvering in melees. It is a mistake, however, to assume that the skill and prowess of such individuals or units is somehow less than that of other fighters
