A crown is the ornamental headdress worn by a King and/or Queen to signify sovereignty. It is of gold and ornamented and jeweled as They see fit. There are many crowns that The Crown may choose from, but only The Crown may wear a crown. The first crowns of the Middle Kingdom are referred to as the Ancient and Honorable Crowns and frequently it is these crowns that are used for Coronations.
The decorative headdresses worn by others such as Prince, Duke, Count, Baron, etc. is properly called a coronet.
