Tippit

In costuming, a tippit is a long thin decorative element, usually hanging from the upper arm of a cotehardie. Popular opinion is that this is a separate accessory buttoned or pinned in place, though some theorize that it is actually attached to a short-sleeved over-garment the stylized child of the shorter hanging sleeve popular in the imediately preceding decade's dress. The late tippits usually appear white in illuminations, while the earlier hanging sleeve tends to be the same color as the cotehardie.

The long tube hanging off the back of a hood is sometimes called a tippit, however this is more properly termed a liripipe.
