The term Consort usually denotes some sort of romantic relationship; however this is not necessarily so.

1. The inspiration (lady or lord) of an armored combatant.


2. The sovereign who reigns other than by right of arms.


3. The romantic partner of one member of a ceremonial couple; for example the wife of the local Baron who is a different person than the Baroness. The Baron and Baroness are a couple for ceremonial purposes while they may only be good friends and each have thier own consorts.
