The Order of the Mark (Mark) is a Society wide polling award that carries a Patent of Arms. This is the highest recognition one can receive for mastery of ranged missile activities, including target archery, thrown weapons, equestrian archery, and seige. The regalia of the Order is two white vambraces or bracers and its members bear the badge: (Tinctureless) A set of nesting scale weights within and conjoined to a mascle fleury at the upper point.
It is equal in rank to the Knight, Master of Arms, Defense, Laurel and Pelican.
In addition to great Prowess, members of the order of the Mark in the SCA are expected to exemplify the other Chivalric Virtues, arts and scholarship.
History
On April 12, 2025 at the Quarterly Meeting, the SCA Inc. Board of Directors voted to approve the above name, badge and regalia for the new peerage order celebrating those who have achieved a standard of excellence in prowess for ranged martial pursuits. Writs for the new peerage are allowed to be issued for 3 principals in each kingdom from 1 May 2025. Elevations of the premiers may commence from 7 June 2025.
On May 3, 2025 (AS LX) at the Coronation of Prince Wigthegn II and Princess Neassa II, after the members of the Greenwood Company formed an honor guard for opening court, the premier members of the Order of the Mark for the Middle Kingdom were announced and put on vigil. They are Master Robert Thorne, Countess Aibhilin ni Dhomhnaill and Forester Muldonny McVriw. The elevation of the premiers took place on June 7th, 2025 at North Oaken War Maneuvers.

May All Gentles and Nobles know by these words that we NAME, Sovereign by right of arms of the Middle Kingdom, and NAME, our Consort, in consideration of their courtesy, chivalry, patience, and skill both on and off the field, do of our especial grace and certain knowledge recognize NAME as a Master/Mistress of the Mark of the Society, to be in all places of honor numbered a Peer of our Realm and a member of the Order of the Mark.
(IF the person is not already a peer, a Patent of arms is added):
Furthermore, do we confirm upon them by Letters Patent the right to bear BLAZON. as duly registered with the College of Arms of the Society, the title of Master/Mistress of the Mark, and the right to wear the regalia of this rank, two white vambraces or bracers, with all rights, privileges, precedence and responsibilities thereto appertaining. Done by our hands this DATE, Anno Societatis YEAR, in our LOCATION.
